Starting Annual Salary: RMB 175,655 (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; 13 th month bonus and employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary)

Area of selection:

This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.

Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Beijing at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at own expense.

** This competition is Anticipatory Staffing to create an eligibility list of qualified candidates for this position and similar positions with various tenures, including potential indeterminate, term and emergency opportunities at the Embassy of Canada in Beijing.
Currently we have a term vacancy beginning in June 2017 for approximately 12 months.

Job summary:

Under the direction of the Consular Manager, delivers consular assistance within the mission consular district; delivers emergency services; provides notarial services; supports the passport and citizenship programs; develops and maintains productive relationships with host authorities, organizations and other missions; manages special projects; and performs other duties.

Mandatory requirements:

Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university

Language:

  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing and speaking)

And ONE of the following languages:

  • French (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Mandarin (reading, writing and speaking)

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in dealing with the public and customer/client service


Abilities/skills:

  • Ability to write effective business correspondence using Microsoft Outlook and MS Word software
  • Ability to conduct research and analyze information as well as compile reports
  • Ability to implement delivery of services consistently in accordance with a set of defined and evolving policies and regulations

Asset criteria:

Preferred standing may be given to those candidates who also meet the following:

Language
Proficiency in BOTH of the following languages:

  • French (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Mandarin (reading, writing and speaking)


Experience:

  • Experience in dealing with Chinese government agencies.
  • Experience in providing consular services.


Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of regulations pertaining to foreign citizens in China.
  • General knowledge of Canada.


Organizational Needs:

Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens; and
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance.


Operational Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required; and
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
