Position Title:  Commercial Officer, LE-07, Ontario Office in Beijing

Starting Annual Gross Salary:  Approx. 179,344 RMB (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; 13th month bonus and employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable)

Area of Selection:

This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.

Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Beijing at their own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Beijing at his/her own expense.

Job summary:

Reporting to the Head of Program at the Ontario Trade and Investment Office (TIO), the position is required to help develop and implement strategies to increase economic activity in Ontario through investment attraction, trade opportunities, and research and innovation partnerships within the TIO area of operation and the sector responsibility.

The position is also responsible to oversee the general administration of the Ontario TIO for office organization, such as project (trade and investment) record-keeping and reporting, scheduling of external meetings and travel for the Head of Program, as well as vendor and client liaison.

Mandatory requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university

Language

  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
  • Proficiency in Mandarin (reading, writing and speaking)

Experience:

  • Minimum three years’ experience in international commerce
  • Experience in working and liaising with government agencies and companies
  • Significant experience in providing client service

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of international business (exporting, importing, investment, technology transfer and commercialization)
  • Working knowledge of key industry sectors in the Province of Ontario
  • Working knowledge of industry sectors, provincial and municipal government and key business and professional associations in north China regions

Abilities/skills:

  • Ability to write effective business correspondence and professional reports in English and Chinese
  • Ability to research, interpret sources of information and synthesize data to respond to requests for information from clients or to present at public events.
  • Ability to perform translation and interpretation from Chinese to English and vice versa

  • Experience in working, living in Ontario and interacting with Ontario government offices, companies, organizations and/or education institutions

Organizational Needs:

Conditions of Employment

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance

Operational Requirement:

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally as required
