Position Title:  Non-Immigrant Officer (NIO), LE-06/07, Immigration Section in Guangzhou

Closing Date: July 30, 2017 (At midnight UTC+1 / GMT+1)

Starting Annual Gross Salary: Approximately RMB 180,000 (before designation) / 250,000 (upon designation) ** Gross salary is before CPP, EI and Canadian Income Tax deduction; no other benefits included; salary is non-negotiable **

This position is open to Canadian citizens residing in China who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date.

Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Guangzhou at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Guangzhou at own expense.

** Candidates for NIO designation are normally expected to complete a minimum 6 months fully satisfactory employment at the LE-06 level, followed by successful completion of a training course in Ottawa.

Background screening is a requirement all candidates for formal designation must satisfy.

Designation is mandatory for this position. **

Job summary:

Under general supervision, implements Canadian immigration policy and objectives; assesses and processes applications for non-immigrant visas and permits; prevents the travel to Canada of individuals in possession of fraudulent or fraudulently obtained documentation; provides management assistance and may supervises staff; participates in research for the preparation of reports and studies on immigration-related issues; represents the immigration program in contacts with nationals, host country officials and international organizations; performs other duties as required.

Mandatory requirements:


  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university


  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)


  • Experience in dealing with the general public
  • Experience in working both independently and within a team to accomplish goals
