Starting Annual Gross Salary:  RMB 395,087 (before tax and employee social insurance contributions; 13 th month bonus and employer social insurance contributions are paid on top of the gross salary; salary is non-negotiable)

Area of Selection:
This position is open to external applicants residing in China and employees occupying an indeterminate or term position in China Missions who meet all of the essential qualifications and whose applications are received by the closing date. Short-listed candidates should be able to participate in tests and/or interviews in Shanghai at own expense. The successful candidate will be required to relocate to Shanghai at own expense.
Summary of Duties:
Working in the International Business Development team, as part of the Trade Commissioner Service within the Consulate General in Shanghai, under the direction of a Canadian-based Trade Commissioner, the incumbent is a Trade Commissioner primarily responsible for managing the Consulate General’s activities supporting Canadian clients in the Chinese E-Commerce sector.
Mandatory Requirements:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree from a recognized university in a field related to the position, including but not limited to: commerce, finance, and economics
Language:
  • Proficiency in English (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
Experience:
  • A minimum of 2 years recent and direct experience in business development on behalf of foreign (non-Chinese) firms activities’ in the Chinese E-Commerce market;
  • Experience in managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service support to customers/clients;
  • Experience in project management;
  • Experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues; and
  • Experience in using social media tools for promotion and/or to generate new business opportunities.
Knowledge:
  • Extensive knowledge of key Chinese E-Commerce platforms, including their presence in North America;
  • In-depth understanding of Chinese government policy on e-commerce, including cross-border e-commerce;
  • Knowledge of E-Commerce logistics channels for foreign products entering China;
  • Knowledge of the role of foreign governments’ support of international businesses in China;
  • Knowledge of the factors that influence market entry decisions for foreign companies evaluating e-commerce opportunities in China;
  • Knowledge of Canadian e-commerce brands in China, in addition to major Canadian brands with China market potential;
  • Knowledge of trends and recent developments in China E-commerce.

Conditions of Employment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance
Operational Requirement:
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
