Summary of duties:
Under the general direction of the Executive Assistant to the Head of Mission, the incumbent is responsible for preparing and overseeing culinary aspects of Canada’s mission in Beijing. This includes identifying appropriate Canadian and local cuisine and preparing such cuisine for official and unofficial hospitality events (including formal and informal luncheons, dinners, cocktails and receptions).
The incumbent is also responsible for the daily running and management of the Chancery/Official Residence, managing staff (either temporary or permanent), and managing the OR food inventories and supplies.
Mandatory requirements:
Education:
  • Diploma from a certified culinary institute OR an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience
Language:
  • Proficiency in English or French (reading, writing, listening, speaking)
Experience:
  • Recent* experience in the following areas:
  • Working in the field of high caliber food creation and productions; demonstrating high-level culinary skills in the delivery of wide range gourmet meals, with an emphasis on Canadian cuisine;
  • Working in a reputed/recognized hotel, restaurant, or commercial kitchen;
  • Providing catering to events for up to 200 people;
  • Supervising catering and serving staff;
  • Food purchasing and control of provisions and inventories;
  • Budget planning and tracking;
  • Kitchen Management and Administration (i.e. managing kitchen invoices, receipts, inventories, time management etc.)

Knowledge:

Job summary:

Job summary:

Organizational Needs:

Conditions of Employment 

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid working authorization in China. Per Chinese regulations, the Embassy / Consulates can only facilitate working visas for Canadian citizens
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid “Reliability Status” security clearance

Operational Requirement: 

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as required
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
